I'm big fun of Al Di Meola for over 25 years.
So it's a pleasure for me to share some videos and info about my guitar hero.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on July 22, 1954. Drums were his first instrument, but by age eight he had switched to guitar.
In the early 1970s Di Meola studied instrumental performance at Boston's Berklee School of Music and performed with keyboardist Barry Miles.
In 1974, he received an invitation from Chick Corea to take part in some rehearsals and after a weekend with the band Return to Forever, Di Meola made his debut with the group in Carneggie Hall. His star quickly ascended.
With RTF Meola enjoyed great commercial success, as such releases as 1974's Where Have I Known Before, 1975's No Mystery, and 1976's Romantic Warrior cracked the U.S. Top 40 before di Meola jumped ship to launch a solo career.
His career is rife with brilliant jazz fusion guitar-based CDs: in 1976 Land of the Midnight Sun; in 1977 Elegant Gypsy y Casino; and in 1979 Splendid Hotel. He gained great musical acceptation in the trio he formed up with the music giants John McLaughling and Paco de LucA?a while recording Friday Night in San Francisco in 1980. Throughout the '80s and '90s, Di Meola amped his prestige, playing with arts like Paul Simon, Stanley Jordan, Corea, Clarke, de Lucia, and McLaughlin.
During the '90s, di Meola turned his back almost entirely on fusion to concentrate more on acoustic-based world music, as evidenced by such releases as World Sinfonia, Di Meola Plays Piazzolla, and Heart of the Immigrants, among others.
